Ready for Health(ier) Holiday Baking?
Ohhhh… how I LOVE to bake during the holidays. And while I’m being 100% honest let me tell you something. I don’t “healthify” (is that a work???) ANY of the cookies I bake. Yes, you heard me correctly. None. Whole wheat sugar cookies? No thanks, I want that fine, delicate crumb. And other tricks like using applesauce instead of butter in my shortbread sounds like a true recipe for disaster.
BUT - I00% of the time I bake coffee cakes, muffins and quick breads I do make easy modifications to add a boost of nutrition to each baked good. My go-to modifications are to substitute whole wheat pastry flour for white flour, and I often use applesauce in place of most of the oil in quick breads.
During the holidays I encourage people to make conscious indulgences, meaning enjoy what you eat and plan it into your day. But if you find yourself doing extra baking, check out my free Healthier Baking Guide to help you optimize your nutrition in your favorite treats! Enjoy!
