2025 Wellness Trends…What I’m Doing & What I’m Skipping

As we are now in the end of January, I’ve taken some time to consider what wellness trends I will be trying this year and what ones I will be skipping. There are SO many “health hacks” out there these days, but doing all of them is truly impossible (not to mention overkill!). Here is my take on which ones are worth doing, and which ones I will be skipping!

  1. Creatine Monohydrate.

Creatine is no longer the “gym bros” supplement of the 90’s. I have been taking it for a year and seen significant increases in strength at the standard dose of 5g per day. Creatine is the most widely studied dietary supplement of all time. It has been shown to improve cognitive function and may even help combat the effects of age-related muscle loss and bone density decline, making it a useful supplement for women of all ages. Now that being said, you DO need to do resistance training to get the added strength befits creatine offers. So jump on another trend (that I’m not covering but support 100%) and get some resistance training in!

  2. Waiting at least 2 hours before drinking coffee upon waking.

Um, no. No…no….no. Yes, I have read the articles saying that delaying caffeine will hep lower your cortisol, but its just a trend I refuse to try. The quiet few minutes I have to myself in the morning sipping my coffee before I start my workout are just to precious for me to mess with.

  3. Walking 8-10k steps daily.

I LOVE this trend! Once mistake I often see clients make is that they do their workout and then sit the entire rest of the day….but movement outside of a workout is also essential for out health. Counting steps is a great way to burn some extra calories, keep your blood sugar in balance after meal and if you are able to get outside the fresh air does wonders for the mind! All steps count, so walk while you talk on the phone (even around your house), run into the coffee shop instead of using the drive-thru and look for ways to be more active during your day!

  4. Trading Collagen for Colostrum.

Many people are trading in the Collagen for Colostrum (especially now that they carry it at Costco!) but they serve different purposes in the body. Collagen is a protein that supports skin elasticity, joint health, and muscle recovery by providing the building blocks needed to maintain connective tissue. As we age, our natural collagen production declines, which is why many people turn to collagen supplements to help replenish it.

On the other hand, colostrum is the first milk produced by mammals after birth, rich in antibodies, growth factors, and immune-boosting nutrients. Colostrum supplementation is often used to support gut health, enhance immune function, and promote recovery from intense physical stress.

For me personally, the skin and joint benefits of Collagen, along with a nice dose or protein, aren’t something that can’t be replaced by other supplements over even stand alone nutrition. I personally feel a good probiotic might be as beneficial as Colostrum for the general population. Another reason I’m not interested in Colostrum is that you need to spoon the dry powder into your mouth to get the max benefit….which just sounds terrible for me. So while you definitely could use both supplements, I personally will stick with my favorite Collagen!

  5. Prioritizing protein.

If you’ve been getting my emails for awhile you know where I stand on this! Hands down the number one mistake I see most women making is under-eating protein and overeating fat and carbs! There are a few things to keep in mind when increasing your protein though. Number one, get help figuring out exactly how much your body needs. You cans still gain weight on a high protein diet if you are over-eating. Number two, eat mostly whole food proteins. Excessively processed protein rich foods are making their way onto grocery shelves (high protein chips, protein bars, protein desserts), and they aren’t metabolized by your body the same way simple proteins are (eggs, meat, fish etc).
